01What we cover

How we help Rochedale South residents

Most of the Rochedale South clients we work with are within ten years of stopping work. They've saved reasonably well but they've got questions. Is it enough? What do I do with three old super funds? How does the Age Pension work? What happens if markets fall the year I retire?

We sit down and work through all of it with you. No pressure, no pitching a product. We either help or we tell you honestly you don't need us. Here's what a Rochedale South family typically asks us to cover:

A client story

I called George for some advice after my financial situation changed. I had a 10 minute call where George asked me about my situation. He took some notes and made an appointment to meet me and discuss what he could do. We had another meeting where George showed me a custom portfolio for my particular situation, not a generic portfolio. I highly recommend anybody seeking financial advice to give George and Dan a call.

06Questions

Frequently asked questions

Where is your office and how far is it from Rochedale South?

Shop 1/50 Chatswood Rd, Springwood QLD 4127, a short drive south of Rochedale South via the Pacific Motorway. Ground-floor premises with free parking.

What other suburbs do you cover around the Logan corridor?

Our core footprint is the Logan corridor: Springwood, Daisy Hill, Underwood, Slacks Creek, Shailer Park, Loganholme, Cornubia, Meadowbrook, Eight Mile Plains, and Rochedale. We also work with clients across the broader Brisbane southside and the Gold Coast. Most clients come to our Springwood office, but video meetings are available if that’s easier for you.

What happens at the first meeting?

It’s a conversation, not a sales pitch. You tell us where you’re at financially, what retirement looks like in your head, what worries you. We listen, ask questions, and either suggest a way we can help (with a written fee you agree before any work starts) or we tell you honestly that you don’t need a full plan right now. The meeting is free and takes 60 to 90 minutes. No obligation to continue.

How much does financial advice cost?

A retirement plan is typically $3,500 to $6,500 one-off. Ongoing advice services are either 0.5% to 1.0% of managed assets per year or a fixed annual fee. Simple one-off advice (super review, Age Pension application) is cheaper. Everything is quoted in writing before any work starts. If the numbers don’t stack up for you, you walk away at no cost. See our full fee breakdown for detail.

Do I need a lot of super to work with you?

No. We work with people across a range of balances. What matters more than your super number is whether you’ve got real questions about retirement and want a proper plan. If your situation is very simple (small super, full pension, no investment properties), we’ll tell you honestly that MoneySmart and Services Australia can probably answer your questions and you don’t need us. If there’s any complexity, advice usually pays for itself.

Are you independent? Can you recommend from the whole market?

Legally, as an Authorised Representative of Akumin Financial Planning (AFSL 232706), we can’t use the word “independent” (s923A of the Corporations Act prohibits ARs from claiming independence). In practice, we’re fee-based, we don’t receive commissions on super or investment advice, and our Approved Product List is broad enough to cover the entire market for what Logan pre-retirees need. Honest framing over legal-trap language.

Can I meet you at home or do I have to come into the office?

Most clients come to the office because they like seeing where we work and it gives them a chance to step out of the house for a proper conversation. Video meetings are available for clients who can’t travel. For older clients who genuinely can’t come in, we do home visits within the Logan corridor. Just ask.

How often will we meet after the first year?

At least once a year for a formal strategy review. More often if something changes: redundancy, inheritance, health event, or a legislative change that affects you (Age Pension thresholds reindex every March and September, for example). Between reviews we stay in touch by email and phone. Most of our clients have been with us for 5+ years.
