Assessable income --Income limit --
What this rough check leaves out
  • The exact "adjusted taxable income" Services Australia uses adds back things like salary-sacrificed super and net investment losses, which this rough figure does not.
  • Some account-based pensions started before 1 January 2015 are not deemed, so the income test can treat them differently.
  • Residency rules, and the fact the limits are reviewed every year, so a near miss today can become a pass after the next change or a drop in your income.

How it works: The Commonwealth Seniors Health Card has an income test but no assets test. This checker adds your taxable income to deemed income from account-based pensions, then compares the total with the current limit. For a couple where neither person receives a pension, each person's account-based pension is deemed separately using the $55,300 lower threshold. Deeming uses 1.25 per cent up to the applicable threshold and 3.25 per cent above it. The income limits and deeming rates are set by Services Australia. Checked 13 July 2026. Nothing is stored and no personal details are needed. Round figures are fine.
