Minimum pension drawdown

Rates checked 13 July 2026 · Current rules

Use this tool only if your account-based pension was already open on 1 July. A pension started later in the year has different first-year rules.

The rate for the whole financial year is based on your age on that date.

Started after 1 July?

Do not use this result as your first-year minimum. Your fund generally pro-rates the first year, and no minimum applies if the pension starts on or after 1 June. This tool does not calculate that adjustment.

Things people often miss
  • The minimum is a withdrawal rule, not a recommended spending target.
  • Payments must leave the pension account by 30 June. Check timing and processing cut-offs with your fund.
  • If you have more than one pension account, calculate each account separately.

The minimum tells you what must come out. A retirement plan tests whether that income and the remaining balance fit the life you want.

How it works: This tool multiplies the account-based pension balance at 1 July by the minimum rate for your age on 1 July, then rounds the result to the nearest $10. It is only for a pension already open on 1 July. It does not calculate a first-year pro-rata amount. Nothing is stored.
